Artist Statement: Nic Stover Photography is dedicated to engaging people of all ages, backgrounds, experiences, and desires in a dialog about the natural environment and the impact we, as humans, have on this changing world. I exist to honor the art of photography and its ability to capture the moment or show a beauty that can be shared with the world. My goal is to take a different perspective from the top of a peak, behind the controls of a drone/UAV, or from the bottom of a canyon. Through this journey, my hope is to engage people into the natural environment and help them appreciate the beauty and the opportunities that exist to protect this amazing place we call Earth. In turn, the natural environment exists to inspire not as something we can exploit and as such, Nic Stover Photography donates 10% of our net income to groups that seek to protect the environment, educate and engage people from non-traditional paths, or promote understanding of nature and the profound impacts it can have on our soul. Through this work, I sell prints and conduct field photography workshops, and I’m also available to hire for specialized shoots or commissioned work.
Thursday’s program will focus on looking upon the landscape with a new perspective. There are five types of scenes that are most commonly encountered by nature and landscape photographers: desert photography, seascapes, grand landscapes, intimate/small scenes, and night photography. This presentation focuses on the technique used to capture these images, what the vision was, or the scene, and on processing these images taking into account the variables that make each scene a little different from the others. We will review the best practices for these five distinct types of scenes in field capture, talk about processing methods, review special considerations for scene-specific captures, review challenges in fainter light and higher-detail scenes, and so much more! The last portion will be a demonstration of the power of local vs. global adjustments and how you can align depth, texture, luminosity, sharpness, and focus on your processing by using the tools in Lightroom or Adobe Camera Raw.
