The following topic list indicates the activities and meetings that generally define each month in the program year of September through May. Other irregular activities are introduced into the monthly schedule from time-to-time as well.
Usually the competition is in-person on the second Thursday and Photo Forum is virtual the following week. Then there will be both projected and print competitions, To mix things up, in some months, we will meet in-person for Photo Forum on the second Thursday, followed by the competition night virtually the following week. In this case, there will be only a projected competition.
Beginning of the Month
- If you are planning to enter competition, finish working on up to two photographs to submit for the Projected (digital) competition (all competitions) and/or mat or mount up to two photographs for the Print competition (when the competition takes in-person).
- Consider providing an article for the Cable Release newsletter (including reviews, workshops, trips, thoughts, or anything of interest!).
First Thursday – Speaker Night – Virtual
- Attend Speaker Night to gain inspiration and learn how an expert approaches photography.
- Submit Projected Competition entries by the midnight deadline (usually, or the following week if Photo Forum comes before the Competition night).
Second Thursday – Competition – In-person (usually)
- Arrive early to sign in and turn in matted Print Competition entries. Use the template provided on the SSCC website, if the meeting is in-person.www.ssccphotography.org/wp- content/uploads/2013/02/PrintCompetitionLabe ls-8-16.pdf
- Listen to comments by the judge about your photographs, and about others’ photographs, to learn how to critically see and develop work from the various judge’s perspectives.
Third Thursday – Photo Forum – Virtual (usually)
- Based on the topic, whether it be your images for sharing on a specified theme, an education topic, or your questions or thoughts for the interactive open forum, prepare/email any relevant materials indicated in the prior Photo Forum meeting, the Cable Release, eBlast, or Meetup announcement. You may also wish to discuss a book, gear, software, video, or anything else.
- For our Sharing portion, be prepared to show your own images and offer your own feedback, critique, and questions to others.
- When we switch around the order of meetings so that Photo Forum is in-person, join us for hands-on demos and workshops.
Fourth Thursday – Board Meeting – Virtual
- Optionally attend and participate (non-voting) with Board members in discussions and decisions involving the Club’s future!
Field Trip(s)
- Be sure that you know the meeting time and place, which is announced in the Cable Release, at Thursday meetings, email Blast, and on Meetup announcements.
- Check out the venue on its website, or via a “Google” or Flickr image search, to see what shooting opportunities might present themselves.
- Seek out other members who shoot similar equipment to ask questions and get tips on lenses, flash, tripod, filters, etc.
End of the Month
- Submit your article for the Cable Release to the Cable Release Editor by the 24th.
