Etched by Light: Photogravures from the Collection 1840-1940
West Building, Ground Floor – Gallery 22
October 15, 2023 – Feb. 4, 2024
In the 19th and 20th centuries innovative practitioners searched for and perfected a method to produce identical photographic prints in ink. The process came to be called photogravure. These yielded some of the most beautiful photographs ever made—featuring delicate highlights, lush blacks, a remarkably rich tonal range, and a velvety matte surface. Etched by Light: Photogravures from the Collection, 1840–1940 tells the story of the first 100 years of this process.

Walter Plotnick Exhibits: Surprise Inside Series & Circus Series
December 15, 2023 – Feb. 24, 2024
Surprise Inside Series: The implied act of opening the boxes, releases the occupants, allowing them to take flight. The people and objects confined within, through the simple act of unfolding, are exposed revealing what was previously hidden. I try to convey excitement, and energy in images that are playful, expressive, and nostalgically bring the viewer back to the joyful moments of anticipation felt in childhood.
Circus Series: Acrobats, with little or no technology, take us to the outer limits of skill and daring using only the human body. Together, they offer us a thrilling picture of what we can do when we have the faith to leap forward to the next level.
