At 6:30 p.m., one hour before our regular meeting, SSCC will have a social hour! The SSCC Board will treat you to snacks and drinks while you socialize and catch up!
This month, we are very pleased to have Don Rosenberger return to the club as our guest speaker. Many photographers hold a certain fascination with decay and ruination. Perhaps they are drawn to the abstract qualities of a corrosive surface or find beauty within the walls of a crumbling building. Today, urban exploration is a very popular activity, but it can be difficult to do it legally. Don will explore the risks and pitfalls of this type of photography as well as discuss how you can safely and legally add this type of photography to your portfolio. He will also explore why photographers are drawn to decrepitude and how to shoot this type of environment to get the results you desire.
Don describes himself as just a guy who loves to make images. His love of photography began when he was a teenager. Along with his passion for cars, Don would often be seen at the starting line photographing drag races on the weekends. After a while, the cost of photography grew to be too much and Don stopped taking pictures. Fortunately, the arrival of digital photography re-ignited his love for photography and it has been his driving passion ever since. It is the constant desire to improve his craft and elevate the quality of his work that keeps Don growing as an artist. He believes that if this ever stops, he’ll stop growing as an artist.
In 2013, Don co-founded the very successful Road Runners Photography Tours, with Denise Silva. The company was started after they realized that interest in photography tours went far beyond the trips they originally put together for friends. Leading photo tours domestically and internationally with RRPT was an incredible experience. In 2019, Don decided to leave RRPT to spend more time working on his art and building his own brand. Today, Don has teamed up with Kelly Schneider Fine Art Portraiture as a tour manager on his international portrait workshops. He also runs the Fairfax (& DC Metro Area) Photography Meetup group where he organizes different photography opportunities where photographers of all skill levels can get together and explore new places, develop skills and meet other photographers. Don’s impressive body of work, his blog and current workshop offerings can be found on his personal website: www.donrosenberger.com.
