I was the lucky recipient of a raffle (SSCC End of Year Celebration) which gave me an opportunity to meet and learn from this gem of a photographer. More than that, I met a kind, patient professional who was so welcoming and ready to meet me!
We decided to meet at a lovely library in Georgetown and soon found a place to talk without disturbing others. Essdras and I decided that I would bring a thumb drive with photos I wanted to discuss. Most of these were were photos where I knew needed help, plus a few of my favorites. He was happy with my choices.
Essdras was able to point out areas in which I could have improved each photo. I asked him if I could record his thoughts and he agreed – I am so glad I did this because I have often gone over his comments. I felt a real connection to Essdras. At first I was skeptical and nervous to meet him and quickly explained I was a “novice” in the club. But this did not phase him at all. He was generous with comments both good and bad. It was exciting to hear he liked my creative style of photography and reassured me to keep doing what I do and not compare myself to others. He mentioned he liked that my brain was drawn to see interesting sights, and to take my time, be comfortable in what I see, and shoot what I can from different directions.
All in all this was definitely a day I will not soon forget, and I so appreciated getting to know Essdras.
