Park in the northeast corner of the parking lot of Hillandale Shopping Center, Silver Spring:
From New Hampshire Blvd (650), take Powder Mill Rd. to the first entrance on the right and into the lot, then an immediate left and park at the top of the lot, (catty-corner from Unique Thrift Store and opposite from Domino’s):

Overview:
This is the site of the bloodiest day in American military history, occurring during the Civil War on September 17, 1862. The park has 3000 acres and many trails. There is a visitors center with maps, artifacts, and a movie. Also, this trip includes great nature walks, fields with memorials and markers, and the 200 year old town with its imposing cemetery.
