When an urgent call came from the Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) for photographers to help judge its annual amateur photography contest, SSCC member David Terao quickly responded to help out. The MCDOT photo contest consisted of six categories to showcase our beautiful Montgomery County, its activities, and its people. The categories were: (1) By Day, (2) By Night, (3) Her People, (4), Landmarks, (5) At Work, and (6) an optional category, Youth, for budding photographers 18 years old or younger.
In total, 45 photographic prints were entered into the contest. The judging was based on five criteria and used a 5-point rating system, and each judge rated the photographic prints independently from the other judges. The criteria were effective composition, interesting subject, relevant subject (which received double weight), originality, and technique. The judging was performed at the Montgomery County Executive Office Building in Rockville. After all judges complete their task, the points will be totaled to determine the finalists and winners. All winning entrants will receive a certificate and gift. Awards will be publicized in press releases, online and through social media. Photographs may be displayed at various County facilities. Photo winners and judges will be invited to attend the awards ceremony.
