March 16 Seminar Night

We will have the usual book reports, gallery reviews, equipment and software discussions, or any photo related topic on your mind.  Our topic will be a photo critique:

Receiving a judge’s feedback of your image in a competition is helpful but the two-way dialog between viewer and artist is missing. Having a large scale critique session is also helpful but still leaves out the two-way dialog because of volume of images and time constraints. To solve these issues, we will hold a small group critique so images can be discussed in depth.

We’ll break out into groups of 3-4 photographers and discuss up to two images per person. After everyone has had a turn we’ll regroup into new groups with other photographers.

What to bring:

ONE or TWO images printed or able to display on a laptop or tablet.  We will not be projecting images!!

This will be a critique/discussion about your images.

Q&A

What if I’m shy and I don’t want to bring pictures, can I attend anyway?

Yes!  Listening in on others critique and discussion can be a great learning tool.

Can I bring a flashdrive for someone to load on their computer?

No.  If this is the only way you can bring images, please arrange with someone else ahead of time to print or display your images on their laptop or tablet.

I don’t feel qualified to judge others work, should I skip this meeting?

No.  Discussing an image is not always a critique or criticism.  It could be explaining how an image makes you feel and/or what you interpret from the image.

Will I learn anything?

Yes!  No matter what, with an open mind and enthusiasm, the experience of discussing your images and others in a small group setting will teach you something about your photography.
