Board Meeting – July 19, 2018

The SSCC board met on July 19, 2018 at Fuddruckers in Rockville.  Fourteen board members attended.

Year-End Event 

  • Wendy wrote in that she thought a separate appetizer table because they were not eaten once dinner started. She was also interested in raffling off expertise from members.
  • Michael thought it went well and the awards were timed correctly. He liked the Years of Membership acknowledged.  Some improvements he suggested were a menu sign up so that there is more control of what is being offered.  For each dish brought, he suggested writing the name of the dish and ingredients, and writing the name of the person who brought the dish.  He noted that we needed more drinks, and that the speakers needed the microphone.
  • Tanya suggested a ‘pre-run through” meeting to help follow the script of the evening’s events.
  • Other comments: we need more marketing of the event; the sharing of the club’s history was very good.

Committee Chairs and Other Reports:

Treasurer:  Total income through June 2018 was $4,150 and expenses were $3,629, with a gain of $864. We had an increase in the Honor Fund of $115 in September for a fund balance in September of $665. Our Membership stands at 96 with 32 new as of May 10th. Last year at this time we had 85 total with 21 new.

Programming: Renee has all the speakers for the 2018-2019 club year, and is only missing a judge for March.

Field Trips: Andrew presented a draft of the trips for next year.

Website: The 2015 menu under competition rules is still on the website as well as 2014 menu under the handbook.  This needs to be updated.   Dennis said he would take a look this summer.

Cable Release:

Dennis will update the handbook and needs submissions from the board.  President – Welcome Letter, Competition – schedule of themes and definitions,  Program – schedule of Speakers and Judges, Field Trip – trips planned for the year.  Membership will be repeated from last year.  

Competition:  The Light Box has been rebuilt.

Membership:  No report

Honor Fund: No report.

PSA:  Neither the SSCC website nor the Cable Release won a PSA award this year.

Constitution Review: Publishing the proposed changes in the September Cable Release and plan on voting during the October Competition Night.

Social Media: Meetup set up for August 8th for applicants.
